in that deep force, the last fact behind which analysis cannot go, all things find their common origin. for the sense of being which in calm hours rises, we know not how, in the soul, is not diverse from things, from space, from light, from time, from man, but one with them. and proceeds obviously from the same source, whence their life and being also proceed. we first share the life by which things exist, and afterwards see them as appearances in nature, and forget that we have shared their cause. here is the fountain of action and of thought. here are the lungs of that inspiration, which giveth man wisdom and which cannot be denied without impiety or atheism.
formal education is a failure to our community of humanity it amplifies inequality and creates an elitist mentality, which gives a false impression of wealth particularly to the so-called middle class. there is no such thing as a family in nature of an isolated unit, you cannot live for yourself. what is most successful is an efficient ecosystem that is self-sustaining with each member performing a unique function. our purpose is found through the service of others. our employments can never fulfill us as they seek to serve our own interests.
whatever does not create community fails us. most men you know are influenced by their background. i grew up in a country village until i was 7 years old, when i then left the village for algoa bay leaving behind all my childhood experiences. i was of course going to school for the greater part of the year, returning back to the village during the june and december holidays. whenever i returned my perception regarding my upbringing in the village started to change and i looked down upon my peers whom i grew up with and desperately tried to convert them to be civilized and learned. not knowing that i was the one who needed their help, i had looked away from the many truths i was brought up with and instead embraced the western ideals of individual achievement. my perception was influenced entirely by the legacy of colonial values, and not from my humane values that resonate from africa to europe.
